Marcella B. Smith, 97, of Sumner, Iowa, died Sunday morning, September 30, 2012 at Hillcrest Home in Sumner, Iowa.
Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner, Iowa with Rev. Jim Brokman officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at the Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding mass at the church on Wednesday. A Scripture service will be held at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Sumner.
A Memorial Fund has been established in her name.
Marcella Bernadine Hoffman was born June 6, 1915, at LaMotte, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Pauly) Hoffman. She was baptized June 14, 1915, and was later confirmed. She attended school in LaMotte. On August 7, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold Lee Smith. Marcella was a devoted homemaker. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner. Marcella enjoyed quilting, bingo and gardening.
Marcella is survived by her ten children, Gerald Smith of Waterloo, Iowa, Pauline (Jerry) Kramer of Spicewood, Texas, Bev (Curt) Horney of Littleton, Colorado, Zelda (Willie) Meyers of Dubuque, Iowa, Fran Fox of Littleton, Colorado, Mary Stoneman of Waterloo, Iowa, Jean (Mike) Bandfield of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Bernie (Carol) Smith of Sumner; Phyllis (Bill) Smith of Longmont, Colorado and Ramona (Bill) Grassl of Appleton, Wisconsin; thirty-seven grandchildren; and forty-seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in May of 1984; one daughter, Donna Mae Phillips in August of 2007; her parents; one sister, Gert Pollock; and a brother, Roy Hoffman.
